Digital Photo Documentary Magazine

THROUGH THE LENS-

Through The Lens was created as part of my Graphic Design Publication II course. The goal of the project was to design a photo documentary magazine that captures and celebrates my experience studying abroad. Over the semester, the magazine grew into an ongoing, evolving publication that gave me space to creatively reflect on my travels.

The cover features a bold yellow background with a cutout image of a mountain I visited in Interlaken, Switzerland. I chose yellow based on what I learned in my digital photography class about color psychology, since it’s the brightest color in the visible spectrum and one of the first colors the eye notices, it naturally draws attention. I wanted that sense of energy and immediacy to shape the magazine’s visual identity.

Alongside the photo spreads, the magazine also includes a series of advertisements, which were a required part of the assignment. I designed ads for three different types of cameras to stay consistent with the photography theme. One of the ads highlights the camera I personally used during my travels, as a way of acknowledging the tool that helped me capture these moments.

This project was created using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
