"Hair is Heritage" is an editorial photoshoot created for Measure Magazine's Instagram in collaboration with the Social Media Team. The concept was inspired by the intimate yet playful photography of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, capturing a sense of authenticity, confidence, and connection

between the models.

 

Created in celebration of Black History Month, the shoot highlights the beauty, versatility, and cultural significance of natural hair. Through thoughtful styling, composition, and expression, we aimed to celebrate the diversity of Black hair while creating imagery that felt both personal and empowering.

 

For the editing process, I had to improvise to bring our creative vision to life. Since we did not have a hair razor prop during the shoot, I digitally edited the image to make it appear as though the female model was holding one. I also enhanced the grills worn by the male model to make them more prominent and changed the pocket mirror from rose gold to silver, creating a more cohesive color palette throughout the shoot.

 

To complete the final look, I focused on maintaining warm tones with rich contrast, enhancing the emotion of the photographs while preserving the natural textures and details that made the images feel authentic and impactful.
