Film Photography II quickly became one of my favorite electives at Marist University. The course taught me far more than just the technical aspects of shooting film, it taught me patience, adaptability, and the value of trusting the creative process.

 

Each student was assigned a different film camera and was responsible for learning its manual settings before beginning a series of photography projects. Like any new medium,

film photography came with its challenges. There were moments of trial and error, but those setbacks became valuable learning experiences that strengthened both my technical skills and my confidence as a photographer.

 

Once I became comfortable with my camera, the process became incredibly rewarding.

There was something exciting about relying on my understanding of light, exposure,

and composition, then waiting to see how each roll of film developed. Film photography taught me to slow down, be intentional with every frame, and appreciate the beauty of creating something without immediately knowing the final result.
