FADE TO BLACK
"Fade to Black" is an editorial photoshoot created for Measure Magazine in collaboration with the Fashion Team. Although my primary role was on the Layout & Design Team, I had the opportunity to work closely with the fashion stylists to help conceptualize, direct, and photograph the editorial.
Our vision was to create a dramatic, cinematic atmosphere by embracing darkness and contrast.
We photographed the shoot in an empty theater on Marist University's campus, where the space naturally enhanced the mood we wanted to achieve. Prior to the shoot, I experimented with a theatrical spotlight to understand how the lighting would interact with the environment and the models. During the session,
we used a single spotlight to illuminate the subjects, creating striking contrasts and emphasizing the emotion and movement within each frame.
Beyond the lighting, I carefully directed the models' poses and placement to give the images a refined editorial quality. We also incorporated the theater's vintage dressing rooms as a secondary location, adding a nostalgic, behind-the-scenes element that complemented the overall concept. This project strengthened my passion for creative direction, photography, and visual storytelling while demonstrating how thoughtful lighting, composition, and location can transform a concept into a cohesive editorial narrative.
