Throughout Film Photography II, I spent much of the semester experimenting with cyanotypes, exploring different materials and surfaces to better understand the process. By the end of the course, I had successfully created cyanotype prints on a variety of textures, colors, and objects, pushing the traditional process beyond paper.

 

For my final project, I produced cyanotypes on two 100% cotton T-shirts. To create them, I first printed my own digital negatives, then exposed them under a UV light for approximately four and a half minutes, an exposure time I found to produce the most consistent results

throughout the semester.

 

I also experimented with printing on different colored papers to observe how the classic cyanotype chemistry, potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate, interacted with various backgrounds. These experiments deepened my understanding of the cyanotype process and reinforced the importance of testing, patience, and material exploration in

creating successful prints.
